We are Metus. Metus is a Latin translation for the word Anxiety. For our yearlong major group project, we were given the theme of  ‘Socially Responsive Design’.

 

With this in mind, we looked at different sections that we felt fitted into the theme of Socially Responsive Design and agreed on Mental Health. We looked further into mental health as it’s too broad of a topic on it’s own.  In the end we settled on the second most common form of anxiety, which is Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. With one of the group members own experience with GAD and looking into statistics and research we both agreed that this was the best topic to choose.

 

The aim of this project is to create and raise awareness for Generalized Anxiety Disorder through the medium of an interactive narrative and website for people both young and mature. We want to create an interactive narrative showing the effects that GAD can have on people. Our narrative will show the story of a fictional character called Amy. The user will experience a journey into Amy’s life and how it turns into a GAD nightmare for her. The project will educate the users on GAD and help them understand the effects it can have on people.

 

Our narrative will show the story of a fictional character called Amy. Amy is an average 20-year-old female college student that lives a very normal fun life until she starts to suffer her first symptoms of GAD. We will see Amy transition from a girl living a normal life to someone that deals with the pressure of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but with the help of family and friends we will see Amy get through this tough time of her life. The user will be given choices during the film to move the narrative along this will bring in the interaction for the user.
